Johnny and Teresa Greer Owners of Bellamy Hardware
|
In June of 2001, Johnny and
Teresa Greer purchased a great
peice of History in Surgoinsville,
TN. The Bellamy Hardware
business was established in 1908,
starting out as a Pure Gas Sation,
and wore many other 'hats' during
the years. For the 40 years prior to
the Greer's ownership, the Bellamy
family had operated the building as a
Hardware and Grocery store. The
building was in a state of semi-ill
repair when the Greers purchased it
leaving alot of work to be done
before it could host it's first
Bluegrass concert, and welcome it's
first guests. The now pickin' parlor
was still serving as a Feed Room,
housing livestock feed and fertilizer.
The Greers both had full-time jobs
and a full-time family, but put alot
of sweat-equity into the building and
had it ready to host their first
Bluegrass concert in the building in
October of 2001. The first
Bluegrass concert that October was
Appalachian Trail. Since that time,
there has been a show every 3rd
Saturday of the month with
exception of once when there was a
death in the family, and another time
when it was snowed out.

Lifelong residents of
Surgoinsviile, Johnny and Teresa
thoroughly enjoy meeting their guests
each month that travel to the
Hardware to see the shows. Teresa's
impeccable taste in antiques show in
the beautiful treasures that dot the
store portion of the building. All of
the antiques in the store are for sale,
and are a very charming part of the
atmosphere at Bellamy Hardware.
Johnny's years of musical talent, and
aquaintances through the years are
evident in the pickin' parlor and it's
players each month. Teresa works
full time as a school nurse, and
Johnny is currently serving as the
Mayor of Surgoinsville, having
retired after 28 years of service with
TVA. The Greer's have four children
who also help with the operation of
the business, and serve as hosts to
the guests each month. Bellamy has a
wonderful feel of true Southern
Hospitality, and delivers some of the
best musical talent for miles around.
A trip down the old Highway 11 to
Bellamy Hardware will certainly be an
experience you will never forget.
